For the first part of the month, we stayed busy working on the RV (Delilah) when we were not driving to my folks home or at work. It is times like these that I am extra thankful to have a carpenter with a ton of tools as a father! We use his airless paint spray gun to paint all of our cabinet doors and that saved a ton of time, plus we got to hang out with them again. The RV renovation came along nicely. We were expecting to find some mold and soggy floors, but replacing it took some time and we still had to learn how to be proper RV owners. We were able to get everything done that we planned on doing and that was mostly because of my loyal and hard-working assistant!
We have also been working on making more how-to videos just to help people out with these types of things. I am not sure how long this will last with our pilot training coming up soon, but we should be able to make a couple about the Delilah. Here is our first try at this kind of video. It is about a door that we made for our bathroom. Enjoy:)
Meanwhile at work, Jen and I have been wondering who would be scheduled to go through pilot training first. One day our boss finally decided to find out by doing a coin toss, which Jen won. Jen will be starting on July 8th and I will start in August sometime. On the 26th Jen and I stayed up late talking about what airplane we want to get at the end of pilot training. Although we have to go wherever the Air Force tells us to go, we do have some preference taken into consideration as to where and what we want to fly. We agree that our ultimate goal is to go back to California and fly the U-2.
In order to get there one has to get 1,000 hours of flight time flying something else. The quickest way and the most sure way to get that is by flying cargo or re-fueler aircraft.
The next morning I got a text message from work. My boss asked me if I was ready for pilot training, because I am starting today! Someone dropped out of a class that had just started so I filled their spot. With Jen starting a couple weeks after me we are a lot closer together which will help when we have to move again in a year! We are excited to get our careers started although we will not have much time for anything else. We will be either flying or in the classroom for 12 hours a day, 5 days a week. They say the amount of information they throw at us is like drinking from a fire house, but it makes sense because they kind of want us to know what we are doing in a plane and stuff like that I guess.
The last weekend of the month we had our first visitors to our RV!! It was my parents and we treated them to our local seafood spot which is our favorite restaurant right now.
